This History of Kallang Ice World

Long established an icon in the East where bowlers and seafood lovers used to frequent, Leisure Park Kallang’s redevelopment is complete! Read all about it - below

The brand new 210,000 square feet lettable area entertainment hub has over 100 retail offerings across six levels. The project cost Jack Investments $70 Million to transform the location into a fresh, vibrant and exciting mall that offers an alternative experience to traditional entertainment. Its modern façade, flanked by dramatic glass and metal pod structures, hints at the sophisticated use of technology indoors. A funky mall design with ingenious play of lighting effects and technology both within and on the exterior of the mall ensure a truly refreshing and stimulating entertaining experience all round.

Although there is no inline skating / roller skating rink in the new development, SkateSports will open a "proshop" on the 2nd floor. SkateSports Managing Director, "Hanson" is confident that interest in ice, roller, inline and even skateboarding equipment will attract a good sales, "Lets face it, most Singaporeans enjoy sports especially when they can have fun with the family and friends whilst getting a bit of excercise too! Most people who have tried ice skating would also be interested in roller skating, inline skating, or would have buzzed around on a skate scooter before and SkateSports is a one stop shop for all skating sports". In Kallang Leisure Park however, SkateSports will concentrate on sales of inline skates, skateboards, scooters, apparels and promotion of their various learn-2-skate programmes. "Our friend, Kenny (Ice Edge), is our neighbour and sells ice skates so we will focus on selling anything on wheels and setting up skating classes along the Kallang Harbour. Families can buy all their skates and gears from SkateSports, attend some fun, interactive classes then come back inside for some food at any one of the many F&B outlets. After that, they could even go ice skating up stairs, wow, what a great day out!" says Hanson.

Formerly a favorite amongst bowlers, Leisure Park Kallang’s own bowling alley, Kallang Bowl returns with 22 brand new competition standards lanes equipped with state-of-the-art technology to make it once more the choice venue for both leisure and competitive bowling.

The new entertainment hub’s ice-skating rink will offer the biggest ice-skating surface in Singapore. Spanning 10, 500 square feet, it is constructed to match competition standards and will also incorporate some spectator seating in its design to cater to a wide range of ice-skating performances, events and competitions.

Supermarket chain Shop N Save will return with a new concept, taking up a much bigger space than before, occupying a sizeable 21,000 square feet in retail space, as compared to 16,000 square feet in the past. There will also be an 8,000 square feet exciting modernized food court with an outdoor alfresco area to be operated by Koufu, a popular home-grown food chain. Visitors can look forward to experiencing authentic Singapore food culture with Koufu’s unique offering of the Best 10 Foods of Singapore, which includes local favourites such as chilli and black pepper crab, Bak Kut The and Fish Head Curry at affordable prices.

Also, there will be a new concept amusement outlet to be operated by TKA, established operator of the popular chain of amusement centres VIRTUALAND and The Star Factory arcades. Featuring a new theme, slick décor and exciting activities, this new outlet will challenge the way amusement arcades are viewed traditionally and provide a fun and exciting gaming environment for everyone.

Other highlights include:

· 6 Hall-Cineplex
· A family karaoke integrating pool, billiards
- new concept Japanese restaurant
· four large open areas between 6,000 – 14,000 square
feet surrounding retail outlets for events and promotions
· Outdoor, roof terrace pavilions catered for F&B/ entertainment
· Retail offerings including sports and active lifestyle fashion, sport equipment, and
telecommunications.

Leisure Park Kallang is located right at the heart of the fully integrated sports, entertainmentand lifestyle destination that the government is planning for under the 2011 master plan. Besides being right at the fringe of the city, it is also within the Sports Hub area, next to the National Indoor Stadium. It is easily accessible via East Coast Parkway and the new Kallang Paya Lebar Expressway. Those who travel by public transport will be well served by a comprehensive network of buses and the MRT. The newly completed Stadium Boulevard MRT station, scheduled to open by 2010, is right in front of Leisure Park Kallang. In the meantime, the mall will operate interim shuttle buses to Leisure Park Kallang regularly during the operational hours of the mall.
